Children's Book People!!
There's a lot going on over here in the land of MoMeMa—which is the land that exists in my head that slowly creeps onto earth as time permits and turns into this business I call The MoMeMans.
I'm super excited to attend my second Society for Children's Book Illustrators and Writers Winter Conference starting tonight right here in NYC! As a newbie last year, I was so inspired by all the keynote speakers (Justice Sonia Sotomayor was opening night!!) as well as the targeted break-out sessions. I couldn't have been more thrilled to be among other peeps interested in writing and illustrating children's books. I even participated in the Portfolio Showcase!
But as amazing as it was, last year was way too overwhelming going into it and even coming out of it. I attended the conference and Portfolio Showcase having one day off to organize myself after a crazy week-long worldwide trade show. And the day after the conference ended, I started freelancing and pretty much freelanced most of the rest of the year! Sigh. So, I couldn't feed off any of the energy from the conference til like...January 2020 started?! Phew!
But this time I'm not coming off that crazy trade show, I dropped my portfolio off this morning for tonight's Portfolio Showcase and it's not as embarrassing as the cobbled mess it was last year AND I'm not booked for freelance to start Monday...yet. Yay! What a difference focus and attention on one thing can make! My brain is giddy! Yahoooo!
