Day 1: Homeschooling + WFH
Today was the my first day in my new role—being a homeschool teacher on top of my other roles, small business owner, mom, wife and freelancer. And I went into it pretty openly and resolved that this would take priority over my small business. But I have to admit, it was hard. Hard for her to understand why she can’t go to a school she loves so much and why she can’t see her friends. Hard for me to not check emails and updates about my business partners. Figure out how to download activities and schoolwork, cancel flights and submit my taxes...
It was important to go on a nature walk adventure. Chase squirrels. Collect rocks. Read books, practice writing and math. This is a different schedule and I’m mostly optimistic that individualized attention could help with her learning—if only I can make sure I give it. I will try my best! As will my amazing husband. (In between conference calls and all his business going on from the kitchen counter.)
I give my heart out there to every parent home with kids while trying to work. Let’s take it day-by-day and reach out to each other as best we can to show love and support. I have been overwhelmed, in a good way, to all the resources out there to ensure these kiddos get what they need. I literally started 😭when I saw that Spectrum was providing free internet to enable all students the ability to participate in remote learning. All this solidarity makes me feel so many emotions!
And to do our part, we have one small thing we would like to offer. We are now providing FREE downloadable alphabet coloring pages. It’s a day-to-day upload since it takes time to make each available and well, ya know. Hopefully it will provide a little smile while educating your littles the sounds and shapes of each letter. Of course, starting with Z.
